NFL Preseason 2026: The Full Schedule and What the Odds Mean
The 2026 NFL preseason opens with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton on Thursday 6 August at 8pm ET, Carolina against Arizona. The three preseason weeks then run 13 to 15 August, 20 to 23 August and 27 to 29 August. The regular season starts on Wednesday 9 September. Below is the full calendar, the one game currently priced, an honest answer to what a preseason line is actually worth, and the one thing worth getting right if you are betting the season with Bitcoin.

Two details in there are easy to skip past. The first is that the Panthers and Cardinals play four preseason games this year because of Canton, while every other club plays three. An extra week of live reps changes how a coach uses the first one.
The second is that the season opens on a Wednesday, and the opener is a rematch of Super Bowl LX, which Seattle won 29-13 over New England in February. So the first meaningful football of the season is the two teams who finished last season, in the stadium of the team that won it.

Turn those into percentages and you get 51.8 and 54.6, which add to 106.4 per cent. The extra 6.4 points is the margin. Hold that number, because the next section is about it.
Week 1 fixtures are not up yet. Preseason boards fill in as clubs release depth charts and coaches say something about who is playing, which is itself a hint about how much anyone knows this early.
What a preseason line is actually telling you
This is the part most previews skip, so here it is plainly.
You are not betting on which team is better. You are betting on which coach plays their good players longer. Starters in a preseason game get a series, sometimes two, sometimes none at all. The third and fourth quarters are played almost entirely by people who will not be on either roster in September. A preseason result is a fact about squad depth and coaching decisions, and only faintly about the club that shows up in week one.
Now put that next to the margin. A baseball moneyline on our own MLB board runs about 105.2 per cent. Thursday's preseason game runs 106.4. So preseason costs more than a regular baseball game and tells you less. More expensive and less knowable is the worst combination there is, and anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
That is not an argument that nobody should touch it. It is an argument for knowing what you are doing. If you are going to bet preseason, the thing you are genuinely handicapping is depth: which club's fourth string can hold a lead in the last twenty minutes. That is a real question with a real answer, and it happens to be the only question a preseason game reliably settles. There is one more wrinkle specific to Thursday. Canton is a neutral site, so neither club has a home crowd, and the two prices sit almost level at 1.93 and 1.83 partly because there is nothing to separate them and partly because there is nothing to know yet. A near coin toss is what a market looks like when it is honest about its own ignorance.
The news is moving faster than the football
Preseason's real variance is not scores. It is contracts and injuries, and the first week of August delivered both.
Bijan Robinson reset the running back market. Atlanta agreed a three-year extension worth up to $75 million with $51 million guaranteed, which is a record guarantee for the position and makes him the highest-paid running back in the league at roughly $25 million a year. Until now only one back had cleared $20 million.
Zay Flowers got paid too. Baltimore agreed four years and $140 million with $108 million guaranteed, an average of $35 million, which puts him level with Justin Jefferson and fourth among active receivers. He has led the Ravens in catches and receiving yards in each of his three seasons.
Jahmyr Gibbs is still waiting. Robinson's draft classmate is in the last year of his rookie deal, present at Detroit's camp but not practising, and Robinson's number is now the one his side will point at. He has not said much beyond that only time will tell when he plays.
And on the same Tuesday Atlanta made Robinson the richest back in football, Jalon Walker was carted off their practice field with what has been reported as a feared torn knee ligament, pending scans. He was the 15th overall pick last year and had five and a half sacks as a rookie. Nothing has been confirmed as this goes up.
That is one club, one afternoon, in both directions. It is a fair summary of what August does to a season before a single snap counts.
The three things preseason actually decides
If the scorelines do not mean much, something must, and three things genuinely do.
The roster. Clubs carry 90 players through camp and have to be down to 53 within days of the final preseason game. That is nearly forty people losing a job in a week, and the games are the last evidence anyone gets. Almost every snap after halftime is a job interview, which is also why the football often looks frantic rather than bad.
The backup quarterback. Every season a handful of teams lose their starter, and the difference between a competent second-choice and an unprepared one is worth several wins. Preseason is the only time anybody sees the backup play meaningful downs against another team. If you follow one storyline across August, this is the one with the largest effect on futures markets in November.
Kickers and returners. Unglamorous and genuinely decisive. A kicking competition settled in August shows up in one-score games all season, and those are the games totals and spreads live or die on.
None of that is a reason to bet a preseason game. It is a reason to watch them, and it is where the information that prices September actually comes from.
Hard Knocks is on the champions
HBO's camp series follows the Seattle Seahawks this year, the reigning Super Bowl winners, with Mike Macdonald front and centre. Five episodes, starting Tuesday 11 August at 9pm ET on HBO and HBO Max, finishing on 8 September, the night before the season opens in their own stadium.
Worth watching for one reason beyond the entertainment: it is the closest thing to public information about how a coaching staff is actually thinking about its roster, and that is precisely the thing preseason lines are guessing at.
NFL betting with Bitcoin, and the futures problem

Futures are where it matters, and August is when people buy them. A Super Bowl or division ticket bought this month does not settle until January or February. Hold it in Bitcoin and you are carrying two positions rather than one: the bet, and the currency, for six months. Your team can win and you can still finish behind where you started, and your team can lose while the coin covers most of it. Backing it in USDT or USDC removes the second position and leaves you with the one you actually wanted.
That is not a recommendation either way. Some people want the coin exposure and buy futures in Bitcoin deliberately. The point is that it is a decision, and almost nobody makes it on purpose in August. They make it by accident and then notice in January.
