MLB Odds Today: Every Game on the Board, and What Moved
Fifteen MLB games have odds on the Jacks Club board, four of them in the afternoon. The pick of them is Dodgers at Cubs at 2.20pm ET, and the reason is the price: Los Angeles were 1.45 favourites at Wrigley yesterday and they are 2.02 underdogs in the same ballpark today. The Dodgers price flipped in 24 hours
Yesterday Los Angeles were 1.45 at Wrigley, which reads as close to seven wins in ten, and the reason was Tarik Skubal. They traded for the reigning Cy Young winner at the deadline and he was starting.
Skubal pitched well. Six innings, two runs, six strikeouts, 85 pitches, and Wrigley booed him from the warmup throws onward. The Dodgers scored one run. Dansby Swanson turned around a 96.6 mph fastball to lead off the third, Nico Hoerner chopped in the go-ahead run in the sixth and homered off Edwin Diaz in the eighth, and Javier Assad gave up a single run in nearly six innings at the other end. Cubs 5, Dodgers 1. That is five losses in a row for Los Angeles.
Today the Dodgers are 2.02. Read the two prices as probabilities and it is a swing of about 19 points in a day, on the same two teams in the same ballpark. Nobody was traded, nobody got hurt, nobody changed leagues.
The whole difference is that Skubal is not pitching today. Eric Lauer is, against Shota Imanaga.
That is worth sitting with, because it is the clearest demonstration you will get of something easy to say and hard to feel: a starting pitcher is roughly a fifth of a baseball team's week. Yesterday's 1.45 was a price on one man. Today's 2.02 is a price on the club that has lost five straight. Both can be right, and the gap between them is the size of the thing everyone overweights when a big name changes teams.
What happened on Tuesday night
Home teams won 11 of the 15.
Red Sox 14, White Sox 2 was the game that trended hardest. Caleb Durbin hit his first career grand slam in a six-run first and Jarren Duran went back to back with him. Wilyer Abreu added two solo home runs. Boston put up a second six-run inning in the sixth, has won six straight, and is 24-3 since 3 July.
Yankees 2, Cardinals 0 belonged to George Lombard Jr. Promoted the day before, he homered in his second career at-bat, went 1-for-2 with a walk, and handled all five chances at shortstop cleanly. He is the 14th Yankee to homer in his debut and, at 21 years and 63 days, the third youngest to do it. He is also the youngest player to start at shortstop for the club since Derek Jeter in 1995.
Astros 7, Blue Jays 2 produced the story of the week. On Monday Taylor Trammell hit a ball 419 feet, completed his entire home run trot and celebrated at the plate before noticing it had been caught at the wall. On Tuesday he hit a real one, a three-run shot that broke the game open one pitch after Jose Altuve's two-out single put Houston ahead. The Astros are 12-2 in their last 14.
Elsewhere: Tigers 8, Mariners 0, with Troy Melton winning again for a Detroit rotation that traded away its two best starters last week. Rays 9, Rockies 7 in 11 innings. Padres 9, Diamondbacks 4. Braves 4, Marlins 2, a sixth straight win. Reds 5, Athletics 4, with the tying and winning runs both scoring on wild pitches in the eighth. Royals 8, Twins 2, on the night Kansas City honoured Salvador Perez as its all time home run leader. Orioles 3, Angels 1, Grayson Rodriguez throwing seven strong innings against his former club and losing anyway. Mets 6, Guardians 2. Brewers 4, Pirates 2. Rangers 5, Giants 4. Phillies 5, Nationals 0.

What the two prices add up to
Take the Wrigley game again. The Cubs are 1.79 and the Dodgers are 2.02. One divided by 1.79 is 55.9 per cent. One divided by 2.02 is 49.5 per cent. Together, 105.4 per cent.
A real pair of probabilities adds to 100. The extra 5.4 points is the margin, and it is the cost of the market itself. What else is on this week
The Leagues Cup is now on the board, all 36 clubs of it, with six matches on Wednesday and six on Thursday. Inter Miami are 1.37 against Atletico San Luis and Toluca are 1.37 against Seattle. It is a strange tournament with no draws, so read the format before you back anything in it.
The WNBA has four games on Wednesday: Mercury at Dream, Storm at Liberty, Wings at Mystics and Sparks at Sky. Cleveland also revealed its expansion franchise on Tuesday, the Sirens, who begin play in 2028.

MLB betting with Bitcoin

Baseball is the sport where that choice actually costs you something, and the reason is volume. There are 15 games most nights and about 2,430 in a regular season. Anyone following the sport is placing a lot of small bets rather than a few large ones, and a network fee is a fixed cost per movement rather than a percentage of the bet. On a large futures ticket the fee is a rounding error. On thirty small moneylines across August it is not. Pick the coin and the network once, with the fee in mind, and then stop thinking about it.
The second thing is what you hold between the deposit and the payout. A moneyline settles in three hours, so the coin barely has time to move and it makes almost no difference which one you used. A World Series or division future settles in October, and that is a different question: you are holding two positions, the bet and the currency, for two months. Backing it in a stablecoin leaves you with only the bet. Neither choice is wrong, but they are not the same choice, and the difference only shows up at the end.
Where the season stands
Milwaukee have the best record in baseball at 70-43, with the Dodgers 69-45, Atlanta 68-45 and Tampa Bay 67-46 behind them. The Cubs at 65-49 lead the National League wild card by five.
The race actually worth watching is the third American League wild card place, where Cleveland hold it at 57-57 and six clubs sit within two games of them. Three of those six sold at the deadline last week and are still alive, which tells you how flat the middle of that league is this season.
