Ancient Paws Slot Review: Expanding Wilds, 15,000x Max Win
Ancient Paws slot review: how the silver and golden expanding wilds and their multipliers work, the Trail of Treats free spins, 96.16% RTP and 15,000x max.
Ancient Paws is a 5x4 slot with 14 paylines from Bullshark Games, released in April 2025. Bullshark is a partner studio on Hacksaw Gaming's platform, which is why you'll find the game listed with Hacksaw's titles on our site.
Everything in it revolves around one feature: expanding wilds that carry multipliers and, once the bonus starts, stay on the grid, drift around it and merge. Here's how that works and what it can pay.
Silver and golden wilds
The expanding wilds come in two colours. A silver one grows to cover half a reel, two positions. A golden one covers the whole reel, all four. Each one rolls a random multiplier as it lands. It might be nothing at all, it might be a modest 2x to 5x, and at the top end it can be 10x, 25x, 50x or 100x.
Get two on the same reel and something nice happens: where they overlap, they fuse into one wild covering the full reel, and you keep both multipliers, added up. On top of that, a Multiplier Adder symbol can drop in and add 1 to 3 more multipliers onto the expanding wilds already showing.
Say a silver 5x and a golden 10x both land on reel three. They fuse into one full-reel wild worth 15x, and any win running through it pays fifteen times over.
Fourteen lines isn't many, so the wilds carry the game. Since a full-reel wild fills every spot on its reel, all 14 lines run through it, and its multiplier rides along on whatever it helps pay.
Trail of Treats: the free spins
Three scatters give you 8 free spins, four give 10, and five give 12 with an expanding wild guaranteed on the first spin. Each scatter that lands during the round adds one more spin.
This is where the game gets interesting. In the bonus, expanding wilds don't vanish after a spin. They persist, move across the grid, and can merge with each other as they go. Two wilds meeting on a reel means their multipliers combine, so a round that starts with a couple of modest wilds can finish with something much bigger.
RTP, volatility and max win
Bullshark rates the volatility at 4 out of 5, and the max win is 15,000x your bet. The studio publishes two RTP settings, 96.16% and 94.25%. Our game page shows 96.16%, the higher of the two.
That gap is worth knowing about. At 96.16%, $100 of spins costs about $3.84 on average over the long run. On the 94.25% version it's about $5.75, half as much again, for the same game. If you play it anywhere, check which one you're on.
Is Ancient Paws worth playing?
If you like one feature that builds through a bonus, yes. Watching wilds wander the grid and merge is more involved than a straight sticky-wild round, and the multipliers add up quickly when they meet. The 4 out of 5 volatility means patience helps, though. The best of it sits in the free spins.
If you'd rather have your volatility on a switch, Beam Boys lets you choose it. And for a wheel of multipliers instead of wilds, Pray for Three is the one to try.
