What Is Rakeback? How the Percentage Is Actually Calculated
Rakeback pays back a slice of the house edge you paid, not your losses. The arithmetic, why low edge games earn less, and how it compares to a deposit bonus.
Rakeback is a percentage of the house edge you paid, returned to you as balance. Not a percentage of your losses, and not a percentage of what you staked. That distinction is the whole concept, and it is the part most explanations skip.
How the number is actually built
Every bet you place carries an expected cost to you, which is your stake multiplied by the house edge on that game. Rakeback pays back a slice of that expected cost. It accrues whether you win or lose, because the edge applied either way.
Work it through. Say you stake 1,000 dollars across a game with a 2% house edge. The expected house take is 20 dollars. If your rakeback rate is 10%, you get 2 dollars back. Small on one session, and that is the honest framing: rakeback is a volume mechanic, not a windfall.
Turn the same 1,000 dollars over ten times, which regular players do without noticing, and the expected take is 200 dollars and the rakeback is 20. It compounds with activity, not with luck.
Why the game you play changes what you earn
Because the calculation runs off the house edge, a low-edge game generates less rakeback per dollar staked than a high-edge one. A 2% edge game pays a tenth of what a 20% edge game pays on the same stake.
This produces a result people find counterintuitive: the games that cost you least to play also earn you the least back. Chasing rakeback by moving to worse games is a losing trade every time, because you give up more in edge than you recover in rebate.
Rakeback against a deposit bonus
They behave differently and it is worth knowing which you are being offered. A deposit bonus is a one-off with a wagering requirement attached, so it has a break-even multiple you can calculate before claiming. Rakeback has no wagering requirement and no expiry cliff; it simply accrues as you play.
For an occasional player the bonus is worth more. For anyone playing regularly, rakeback overtakes it, because it keeps paying after the bonus has cleared and vanished. If you want the arithmetic on the other side, we covered how to price a casino bonus separately.
How it works at Jacks Club
Rakeback runs through the VIP tiers and starts at Iron, the first tier, rather than being held back for high rollers. The rate scales as you move up the ten tiers. Current rates sit on the VIP page rather than here, because they change and a number in a blog post goes stale quietly.
It sits alongside the other ongoing systems rather than replacing them, and it applies across the casino catalogue. The in-house games run at around 98% RTP, so the edge is low and the rakeback per dollar is correspondingly low. That is the trade described above, and it is the right way round.
The one thing to check before you value it
Ask what the percentage is a percentage of. Some operators quote rakeback against the house edge, which is the standard meaning. Others quote it against net losses, which pays nothing in a winning month, or against total wagered, which sounds enormous but is calculated off a much smaller base rate.
All three are called rakeback. They are not the same product, and the headline number tells you almost nothing until you know the denominator.
